Haute Romanche Valley trek

This 6 or 7* day trek winds through the beautiful and varied mountain landscapes of the upper Romanche valley. Starting in La Grave the route traverses some of the best mountain scenery in the Alps - crossing the unique Plateau d'Emparis, ascending Pic du Mas de la Grave (3020m), flirting with the mythical mountain of La Meije (3983m) and on in to the heart of the Ecrins Alps to locate the source of the Romanche river.

*An optional extra day ends at the Adele Planchard high mountain refuge. Situated at 3169m with views of the Barre des Ecrins (4102m) this option is thoroughly recommended to the adventurous trekker who fancies a night sleeping at over 3000m!

Technical Facts: The complete 7 day trek is around 85km and has daily ascents of 800-1150m. The route uses well maintained paths through out - the optional day to Adele Planchard involves some exposed scrambles but is fine for the adventurous walker!

Accommodation: Two hotel nights in La Grave but on the trek we stay in comfortable mountain refuges that provide evening meals and breakfast. Sleeping is in small rooms and dormitories and showers are provided.
